Gregory Johnson, PhD
Gregory Johnson, PhD, CEO has worked in the behavioral health field for over 25 years. He has held many positions during his career. Per Dr. Johnson, “two positions that has helped me as a professional – is a person working as a mental health technician and a therapist.” He believes these two departments are key components in building a fundamentally sound treatment facility! He also believes a multi-disciplinary approach is vital to resident care and system building. Dr. Johnson also stated, “Staff development programs are essential in filling the gaps of the never ending shortages in the health care arena. We accomplish these through training, maintaining, and recruiting top staff in every department. Dr. Johnson received his PhD in Psychology from Cappella University. His favorite books are The Speed of Trust and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Les McBride, MSN, RN,
Director of Nursing
Les McBride, RN, is the Director of Nursing at Palmetto Summerville Behavioral Health. Les received his BSN from Baylor University and his MSN from Medical University of South Carolina. He has over 10 years of nursing experience. Les enjoys time with his family and outdoor activities. He is an avid supporter of Everton Football Club.
Terrell M. Pinckney, MSCJ Certified NCI, ASD, APT
In his current functional operation Mr. Terrell M. Pinckney serves as the Residential Director at Palmetto Summerville Behavioral Health. He currently oversees the operation of the licensed 64 bed residential facility serving children and adolescents age 7 to high school. The services at Palmetto embraces the treatment of psychiatric behaviors, conduct disorder, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Mr. Pinckney previously served as the Charleston County Department of Juvenile Justice Director. As a leader and a visionary he believed in fairness and upholding the ethical values to improve the lives of the youth in the South Carolina. Mr. Pinckney oversaw the day to day functions of 19 Probation Officers and 2 Administration Support Staff.
In his previous professional functional area Mr. Terrell M. Pinckney provided support services as the 9th Judicial Circuit Family Court and Department of Juvenile Justice Liaison for school with juveniles under the jurisdiction of Family Court. Mr. Pinckney also oversaw the day to day operation of the Truancy Office as the Truancy Administrator for the Charleston County School District serving 47,000 students at 85 schools. Mr. Pinckney also provided trainings in reference to truancy interventions in collaboration with The Children’s Law Center and the State Department of Education.
Mr. Pinckney has been a Nationally Certified Master’s Level Training Instructor for over 26 years with the Crisis Prevention Institute with additional Instructor Certifications in Autism Spectrum Disorders, Applied Physical Training and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Enhancement Training Program. Mr. Pinckney was able to create, train and certify School Level Crisis Teams including School Resource Officers each year on how to safely manage individuals during their most challenging and aggressive moments.
Mr. Pinckney also served this great nation as a member of the United States Army and Navy for 10 years.
Mr. Pinckney serves as a Trustee and is an active member of Greater St. James AME Church in Summerville, SC. Mr. Pinckney also serves his community as a Volunteer Firefighter with his Community Fire Department.
Steven Lopez MD,
Steven Lopez MD, Psychiatrist, has been the Medical Director at Palmetto Summerville for about 15 years. He believes in the multi-disciplinary approach with our clients. This approach requires nurses, Mental Health Technicians, teachers, family, activity therapists, social work therapists, and Psychiatrists putting their heads together to get a clear picture of each child.
Dr. Lopez went to ETSU College of Medicine. He moved to Charleston to attend MUSC residency and fellowship. He hopes to never leave this great city!
Ajay Sood, MD, Psychiatrist
Ajay Sood, MD, Psychiatrist, treats children and adolescents at Palmetto Summerville Behavioral Health with mental health concerns. With his hometown in Charleston, SC; Dr. Sood has 14 years’ experience treating all mental health conditions – including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Having graduated from Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine, Dr. Sood specializes in Psychiatric care for children and teens.
Angela Tobeck, Director – Risk Management
For the last 13 years, Angela Tobeck has been committed to providing leading, evidence-based rehabilitation programs to individuals while in-custody and post-release in the community; including providing leadership and direction for the daily issues of residential programs; day reporting centers and contract compliance for non-residential facilities. These facilities include Day Reporting Centers, In-Prison programs, and Intensive Supervision Appearance Programs. Known for the ability to manage compliance and risk to all corporate and divisional policies, practices, and initiatives for state and government contracts. Ms. Tobeck also has 10+ years’ experience in the mental health field; working in case management, psychiatric hospital discharge planning, and special programming. Currently a Licensed Practical Nurse with a Master’s degree in Management and Organizational Behavior from Benedictine University Illinois.
Anna Simmermon, Director of Admissions
Anna Simmermon, MA, is the Director of Admissions at Palmetto Summerville Behavioral Health. Anna received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from George Mason University and her Master of Art in Psychology from the University of West Florida. Anna has worked in Admissions at UHS since July 2018 and comes to us with over 10 years of experience in the behavioral health field. She also enjoys living in the Lowcountry where she enjoys spending time with family, running, and taking trips to the beach.
Billie Jo Godwin, LMFT, Director of Clinical Services
Billie Jo Godwin, LMFT received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Early Childhood/Elementary Education in 1996 from Seton Hill College in 1996. Spent seven years teaching at the preschool level. Obtained her Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2007 from Seton Hill University. She then became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Pennsylvania in 2013 and then in South Carolina in 2014. Over the 17+ years that she has been in the mental health field, the first 7 years were spent in Pennsylvania. She started working as a therapist providing family based services to children, adolescents, and their families and then developed and supervised a High Fidelity Wraparound Mobile Therapy program. She then moved to South Carolina where she worked with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health for the next 10+ years where she held a number of different roles over those years. She supervised and provided outpatient mental health services for children, adolescents, and adults; was the Clinic Director for the Beaufort Clinic, provided hospital liaison services, supervised and provided mobile crisis services, and then moved to a more administrative role of Chief of Staff/Director of Clinical Services. She is currently working towards becoming an LMFT Approved Supervisor and completing her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy with NorthCentral University. In her spare time, she enjoys living in the Lowcountry, spending time with her husband and dogs, and walking on the beach.
